Fajã dos Vimes

Fajã dos Vimes, a biosphere space, is located on a detrital platform that kisses the sea and is protected by the mountains. It benefits from a microclimate that provides it with different agricultural crops, especially the production of coffee and yams (ancestral crops). The first is one of the references of this Fajã and the second motivated the greatest social revolt in the Azores, known as the yam riot, which involved the entire island of São Jorge and is embodied in the heraldry of the Municipality, which displays two leaves of this rhizome on its coat of arms.

This Fajã is also the crossroads of several trails, and is a place ideal for overnight stays for those who use them, especially those who decide to follow the great São Jorge route. From this location, it is also possible to follow the Fragueira trail (where the conductor and composer Francisco de Lacerda lived), visit the Fajã dos Bodes and the Fajã do Cavalete, as well as reach the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, going up and down the back of the island through breathtaking landscapes.
